The IntegraSpec ICF or Insulating Concrete Formwork is a proven MMC (Modern Method of Construction) building system using reinforced concrete placed in a formwork made from high density fire retardant polystyrene, which is left in place permanently as thermal and acoustic insulation. Used on the continent of Europe and in North America for over twenty five years, ICF has proven to be a robust, cost effective method of constructing a variety of building types from basements, houses, factories, supermarkets to multi-storey commercial and residential buildings.
In essence, ICF consists of twin walled expanded polystyrene (EPS) blocks which are built up to create the walls of a building. This formwork system is then reinforced and filled with ready mixed concrete to create a superstructure ready to accept the roof and floors. It provides a uniform surface for direct application of most render or cladding systems on the outside and plasterboards (drywall) on the inside.
